Medical Admissions Unit

Our 10-bed Medical Admissions Unit (MAU) is focussed on treating and caring for acutely unwell patients over 16 years of age following stabilisation in the Emergency Department.

We see an average of 600 patients a year and provide care for patients with a range of medical conditions such as diabetes, asthma, pneumonia and more.

Our unit is staffed 24-hours by a team of dedicated medical and nursing staff and is supported by a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals.

We are part of the hospital’s inpatient medical team and work closely with the medical wards and Intensive Care Unit to ensure that patients receive the best possible care in a timely manner.

Located in the same area are six beds currently used as part of the Surgical Short Stay (SSU). These cater for patients who require an overnight stay in hospital following their surgery.

Patients in the SSU are usually discharged home before 10am the day after their operation.
