General Medicine

Our General Medical team provides 24-hour inpatient care for acutely unwell patients over 16 years of age following stabilisation in the Emergency Department.

These include patients with a range of medical conditions such as emphysema, diabetes, asthma, pneumonia and other infections and patients with palliative care needs.

The General Medical team provides care across the following wards in the health service:

• Acute Medical Unit
• Canning ward

Our team is comprised of dedicated medical and nursing staff and is supported by a multidisciplinary team of allied health professionals including:

• occupational therapists
• physiotherapists
• dietitians
• speech pathologists
• social workers.

The inpatient medical team works closely with the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit to ensure that patients receive the best possible care, in a timely manner.
