One of the main design concepts of the hospital has been to create an environment that is patient/visitor focussed. A series of health service entries ensure that the public has quick access to the department that they want. Ambulatory health services are located towards the front of the hospital, backed by the inpatient services.

The hospital is designed to blend in with its neighbouring surroundings through the use of brick and tile materials. The western facade has been designed to provide a graceful curved colonnade that not only provides shading to the buildings, but reinforces the campus theme of the new facility, and provide a visual clue to approaching visitors which is welcoming and non threatening.

The patient spaces in the hospital were designed to reinforce this external environment and provide spacious, well lit areas, offering as much visual contact with natural light as possible. Vibrant but reassuring colours and a carefully selected integrated art theme relevant to the community and the hospitals important historical and memorial past will be used. An Arts Sub-committee was established to ensure coordination between architects, interior designers, landscapes gardening and art. This process is continuing to ensure an integrated approach to the visual aspect of the facility.

The Armadale Health Service site including all facilities, buildings, grounds and car parks are smoke free. AHS is committed to providing a healthy environment for staff, patients and visitors free from the harmful effects of tobacco smoke.
