Young patients at Armadale Health Service (AHS) will now have an activity pack to keep them entertained while they wait for outpatient paediatric appointments.

The packs are an initiative by Outpatient Services Manager Tahlia Parry who noticed the lack of entertainment available for young children and their families during their hospital visits.

The activity packs are created by company Busy Nippers and come in a ‘show bag’ filled with items such as crayons, stickers and an activity book that children can take away with them.

Tahlia said the packs are multifunctional and are also being used during the doctor’s consultation as a tool to allow clinicians to observe the patient and identify developmental issues.

“These packs, which are made available to patients, their siblings or other children who come into the paediatric clinic will go a long way to making the outpatient experience a more enjoyable one and will also benefit the patients clinically,” Tahlia said.

The packs are currently being trialled at the paediatric clinic and will be rolled out across outpatient clinics if successful.
