Midwifery Group Practice launched at Armadale

March 30, 2015

A new public midwifery service giving expectant mothers a choice in their care was recently launched by Minister for Health The Hon. Dr Kim Hames MLA.

The Armadale Health Service Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) provides a single point of care throughout a woman’s pregnancy and beyond.

MGP Clinical Midwifery Manager Sarah Weightman said the continuity of midwifery care helps to build a strong bond of trust between the mother and midwife.

“The service allows a midwife to gain extensive knowledge of an expectant mother’s health needs and any associated risks, which will lead to safer a birth and a shorter hospital stay,” Sarah said.

“Expectant mothers will not have to repeat their concerns to a different midwife at each antenatal appointment.”

This service is the first of its kind in the south metropolitan area and is available for women residing in Armadale, Roleystone, Mount Nasura, Mount Richon, Westfield, Camillo and Kelmscott.

The service is staffed by four midwives with each midwife able to take on 40 women per year.
